Born in Siliguri, a small yet vibrant town in northern West Bengal, Debarshi Das’s journey has been shaped by two parallel worlds — technology and storytelling. After completing his undergraduate studies in Kolkata, he began his professional career as a software engineer in 2010. Today, he works as a Business Intelligence / Data Analytics Solution Architect at Tata Consultancy Services. Beyond the structure of corporate life, however, he has always been drawn toward the unknown — the landscapes, cultures, and stories that exist far from everyday visibility.

For Debarshi, photography and travel are inseparable parts of life. He believes photography is a powerful medium that transforms experiences into something immortal — preserving moments and emotions long after they have passed.

Inspired by the works of Paul Nicklen and Keith Ladzinski, he undertook a solo expedition to Greenland during 2017–18. That journey became a defining turning point. Standing amidst vast icebergs and witnessing the visible impacts of climate change profoundly reshaped his understanding of the planet and humanity’s relationship with it.

Since then, his work has been driven by a singular purpose: documenting the fragile relationship between nature, climate, and indigenous communities. From rapidly changing polar regions to high-altitude landscapes such as Ladakh and Zanskar, his focus has remained on stories that often go unseen : melting glaciers, shifting ecosystems, and communities adapting to environmental uncertainty.

His long-term vision is to create a body of work, and eventually a documentary, that connects climate science with human stories. Through this effort, he aims to document indigenous cultures across the Arctic and sub-Arctic regions, including the Kalaallit, Inuit, Yupik, Sami, and Aleut communities, whose lives remain deeply intertwined with the natural world. Their knowledge, resilience, and struggles offer invaluable lessons on sustainability and coexistence.
