Zanskar Valley

Zanskar, Zahar or Zangskar, is a tehsil of the Kargil district, which lies in the Indian union territory of Ladakh. The administrative centre is Padum (former Capital of Zanskar). Zanskar, together with the neighboring region of Ladakh, was briefly a part of the kingdom of Guge in Western Tibet. Zanskar lies 250 km south of Kargil town on NH301. Geographically, the Zanskar mountain range separates this region from the rest of Ladakh. The Zanskar region covers approximately 7,000 km2 at an altitude of 3,500-7,000m. The river of the same name is responsible for the many deep valleys that decorate the country, and is the greatest contributor to Zanskar’s characteristic landscape. This valley is a semi desert, with a known affinity for Buddhist beliefs. It is famous for its high snow capped mountains and surrounding landscape.

Suru Valley

The Suru Valley is a valley in Kargil District in the Union Territory of Ladakh in India. It is drained by the Suru River, a powerful tributary of River Indus. It is a must visit place for tourists for its charming landscape, sightseeing opportunities, photography and spectacular views. The Suru Valley lies just across the Pensi La on the Kargil Road.
